4 Trademarks for sustainable footwear in check

 You don't just want to protect your feet, you want to protect the environment? In our article we present the four most famous brands for sustainable barefoot shoes and compare materials, production, models & prices. Who does the best cutting in our sustainability check? Who can convince with vegan barefoot shoes?

 

VIVORABLE

Footwear of VIVORABLE are a classic. The British company Terra Plana placed 2004's first barefoot foot on the market and is now one of the world's most famous brands of sustainable footwear.

 Materials

VIVOBAREFOOT uses leather for some models, but over 70% of the collections are vegan. The Eco-Suede material made of recycled PET counterfeits, which looks like wild leather, is unique. Interior lining and sole also consist of recycled materials and water-based adhesives. The leather models are made of at least vegetable tanned leather, and the made in Portugal barefoot shoes are made of 100% chrome-free leather.

 Production

The British company produces in China. Under its own code of conduct, all forms of forced labour are avoided, appropriate wages are paid, safe working conditions are guaranteed and appropriate working hours are observed.

 Models & prices

VIVOBAREFOOT offers a wide selection for ladies, gentlemen and children. The barefoot shoes impress with a minimalist and elegant design, a wonderful running sensation and a very good workmanship. Current models cost between 50 and 250 euro.

 Also worth mentioning: Since 2012, VIVOBAREFOOT has donated five pounds per shoe sold to the Soul of Africa collection to the same-name and non-profit organization. Soul of Africa supports children who have lost their parents to AIDS and provides care and education for children.

Wildling.

Wildling Barefoot

Wildling. is a young manufacturer of barefoot shoes. The German family company is committed to sustainable barefoot shoes and won the founding prize NRW for creative and successful business ideas.

 Materials

Wildling's barefoot shoes are made of natural materials. Most shoes are made of GOD certified organic cotton from Turkey, other shoes consist of wool, bamboo, walnut shells, hemp, cork, recycled rubber and even paper. The waterproof footwear also has a top material coated with GOD-certified wax. In addition to cotton from Turkey, the other materials come from Portugal or Germany.

 Production

The German company produces in Portuguese manufactures. All Wildling's barefoot shoes are almost exclusively handmade and manufactured under environmentally friendly standards and fair working conditions.

 Models & prices

Wildling offers different shoes for men, women and children depending on the season and regularly presents new models. The design is inspired by traditional Japanese socks (tabi). Adult footwear costs between 90 and 140 euro. Wildling baby and baby shoes between 65 and 120 euro.

 Also worth mentioning: Wildling has his barefoot shoes tested voluntarily for impurities by the German testing institute PFI.

Senmotic

Senmotic footwear

Since 2010 Senmotic high quality barefoot shoes. According to its own information, the German company is the market leader for handmade barefoot shoes from Germany and offers two years warranty on all products.

 Materials

Senmotic barefoot shoes, unfortunately, consist exclusively of real leather. The beef, pig and calf leather comes from a German company in Pirmasens (Rhineland-Palatinate) and has a mineral tanning. The soles consist of a thermoplastic plastic (TPU) and natural rubber. The plastic is recyclable and free of plasticisers. Senmotic barefoot shoes are 100% "Made in Germany" and all materials come from Germany. Vegane models you are still looking(?) vain.

 Production

Senmotic produces his barefoot shoes at a production facility in White enfels (near Leipzig). All shoes are handmade and are only made after ordering. 12.Employees produce shoes in over 80% manual labor.

 Models & prices

There are sports laces and running shoes for ladies and gentlemen. Senmotic also offers slippers and especially for ladies barefoot as ballerinas. The design is always minimalist. The prices are between 100 and 200 euros.

SAQQ

SAQQ

SAQQ is a renowned manufacturer of sustainable footwear. The German company was founded by two friends and sells its biologically and ecologically recyclable barefoot shoes exclusively in Germany.

 Materials

While most ZAQQ shoes are made of German or Italian natural leather, there are some vegan models. In vegan footwear, ZAQQ relies on organic cotton, cork and non-polluting microfibre (eco-Tex 100 certified). The soles are made of flexible rubber. For example, the ZAQQ PREQUEL shoe is made entirely of vegan fabric.

 Production

ZAQQ produces in a factory in Leipzig. Only after the order has been received, the shoes are handmade within three days. Almost every step of the work is hand-made, from hand-carving to sewing to strawing and stamping.

 Models & prices

ZAQQ shoes are available for ladies and gentlemen. There is a wide range of sneakers, winter shoes, outdoor shoes, running shoes, business shoes and sandals. Prices are between 130 and 190 euro.

 Also worth mentioning: According to its own statement, ZAQQ tries to produce as environmentally friendly as possible, use renewable raw materials and refrain from harmful chemicals.
